Applicant should apply for one type of the visa based on the purpose of the visit. However, the final decition on the type, number of entries, validity and duration of stay will be made by the consular section of the Embassy. The Embassy also has the authority to decline a visa application or cancel an issued visa. Please chose the most appropriate visa for your China entry.

 

1. C – crew members

C Visa is issued to foreign crew members on international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

 

2. D – residents

D Visa is issued to those who intend to reside in mainland China permanently.

 

3. F – non-business exchanges and visits

F Visa is issued to those who intend to go to China for a non-commercial exchange, investigation or visits for science, technology, education, cultural exchanges, and health or sports activities.

 

4. G – China Transit Visa

G Visa is issued to those persons who intend to transit through China. They may stay for a short time out of an international transfer area. However, in some airports there is international waiting hall for you waiting for your airplanes within 24 hours.

In addition, at the airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang and Dalian, you can apply for 72-hour Visa-free Transit and stay in their administrative region. Read more about 72-hour Visa-free Transit policy.

 

5. J – foreign journalists

J1 Visa is issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. The holders of J1 just have 30 days to seek a Temporary Residence Permit for the duration of your contract to a maximum of 5 years.

J2 Visa is issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

 

6. L – tourist

L Visa is issued to those who intend to go to China as a tourist.

 

 

a. for tourism

Under some circumstances, the applicants may be required to provide financial proof, a copy of Chinese hotel booking and return flight tickets. b. for visiting relative in China

Proof of kinship is required, but the applicants who were born in China as shown in the passport are not required.

 

7. M – business or trade purposes

M Visa is issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

 

 

8. Q – family reunion

a. Q1

 

Q1 Visa is issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

 

“Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

 

b. Q2

 

Q2 Visa is issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

 

9. R – high-level talent and skill

R Visa is issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

 

10. S – private visit

 

a. S1

 

S1 Visa is issued to those who intend to go to China visit the foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law, or to those who intend to go to China for other private affairs. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

 

b. S2

 

S2 Visa is issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private matters. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

 

“Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

 

 

11. X – studying in China

 

a. X1

 

X1 Visa is issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days. The holder of Visa X1 should apply for a Temporary Residence Permit from the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 30 days upon entry into China.

 

b. X2

 

X2 Visa is issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

 

12. Z – work in China

 

Z Visa is issued to those who intend to work in China. It is valid for only 30 days from the date of arrival during which time you and your employer must seek a Temporary Residence Permit for the duration of your contract, to the maximum of 5 years.
